There are many species in and around us, but we fail to acknowledge them, let alone respect them. It is exhausting and I believe it’s why so many humans feel the need to get back out in nature. Coming face to face as just another animal, just a part of nature, is something almost inherent. It’s in our blood.
We have built these rigid cities that force us all into little boxes. Prescribe us to certain expectations. No sense of freedom, no sense of choice. Hell, you can’t even pick a unique trail, you need to stick to the sidewalks. Life has many forms, and I think in our concrete cities we forget that a lot. We see the odd bird or something small run by, but we were never meant to be the only ones around. The fact that we decided to build our ecosystems the way we did, with it being fully human-centric at every corner, was a nightmare of an evolutionary choice. For us? Maybe it worked out. But for the rest of the planet, it got destroyed. And it won’t be long until we have to pay the price for it.
Notice those that dare to enter our areas. Notice how they are able to evade quickly. We are the most terrifying species to run into. Did it push us forward and create “great things”? Sure. I guess. But that’s all subjective. I’ve seen nothing greater than nature on her own. She could rock your shitty skyscraper to pieces. And in time, she will. So in the meantime, appreciate the other species around, of which we are just one.
You might learn a thing or two from them.
